defending THE
tri-cities

You know what drives me nuts? Well, besides the traffic circle on Temple Avenue. I often see lawyers from Richmond representing clients in the Tri-Cities.

I’m sure they went to a prestigious law school and will happily bill you for it. They may even validate your parking - assuming you can find any downtown. But when you don’t have an appointment and need to speak to a lawyer at that moment, are you confident they will take your call during their partner golf tournament?

My name is Cecilie Hamilton. I’m an attorney in the City of Colonial Heights, Virginia and frankly I hate golf. I grew up in Colonial Heights and although I now call Prince George home, I operate a boutique law firm just across the Boulevard from the Colonial Heights Courthouse. No secretaries. No paralegals. When you call, you get me. I will take the time to listen to you, answer your questions and customize a defense strategy.

I received my Juris Doctor from the Regent University School of Law, where I was the first student accepted into their nighttime law school program. This allowed me to work full-time and gain experience in the insurance industry – making me uniquely qualified to handle civil litigation and assess the value of a case. Prior to that I studied Criminal Justice at West Virginia University. Go Mountaineers!

In addition to regularly practicing before the Colonial Heights courts, I also represent clients in the surrounding localities, including but not limited to Prince George, Petersburg, Hopewell and Chesterfield County. I have experience in both prosecuting criminal offenses as well as criminal defense. I’m also proudly qualified as a Guardian ad Litem for children.

FeatureD services

I understand you may be reluctant to contact a lawyer. You may be tempted to trust the internet or try to save money by handling the legal matter yourself, but that’s a recipe for a less-than-desirable outcome. When you’ve been injured, accused of a crime or custody of your children is at stake, I want you to have access to the quality representation — and justice — you deserve. I know the law and I know the courts. Below are a few areas of my expertise.

CRiminal defense

When charged with a crime, it can feel like the world is against you. You don’t need to fight allegations on your own. I believe everyone is innocent until proven guilty and will zealously work by your side. I’ve successfully represented clients faced with minor misdemeanors to assault, theft, harassment and property crimes.

custody and visitation

Custody battles between two parents can quickly become petty and vindictive. If you believe that you are being treated unfairly and may potentially lose the legal right to spend time with your child, I can help by presenting the evidence to establish what is in the child’s best interests.

TRAFFIC OFFENSE

At some point, we all get pulled over by the police for a traffic offense that may seem to be insignificant. However, even minor traffic offenses have consequences. In many cases, it’s possible to have your charge reduced and occasionally even dismissed without you even having to attend court.

Expungements and pardons

When you have an old arrest or minor incident on your criminal record, it can hold you back from moving forward with your life. Potential employers, landlords, loan officers and college admissions officers may get the wrong impression. We may be able to wipe the slate clean as if that arrest, detainment or proceeding never happened.

Civil commitment

Civil Commitment is a legal process through which an individual with symptoms of severe mental illness is court-ordered into treatment. All citizens have civil liberties that need to be protected, so following “due process” is of paramount importance. These hearings occur quickly, so you must contact an attorney immediately.

Wills and Powers of Attorney

Nobody likes to think about death, much less their own. Without a Will, your assets and possessions are subject to the decisions of others. Regardless of age and income, I encourage you to establish a Will and help your loved ones when you’re no longer there to make important decisions related to the assets you leave behind.
